For some people, heading to the car dealership to wheel (pun intended) and deal is a nightmare. The car salespeople. The pumped-in music in the high-ceilinged showroom echoing around you like the background music from a scary movie. Or maybe it isn’t scary. For some people the stress is out of control – or the impatience, or plain and simple shyness. Whatever the reason, a good percentage of the American public would rather pay the full sticker price than try to negotiate with a dealership.
Lucky for those people, there are people who will do that for you. There are a number of car buying services that will negotiate on your behalf, making it so that you get the best price they can get for you, and you have none of the stress. But not all online car buying websites are created equal…
Automobile Consumer Services
Some of the services this company provides: leasing a new or used car, lease refinancing, car buying services, and more. Terry Shebesta started this company in 1989 after walking away from a car buying experience thoroughly exhausted and annoyed. ACS is technically a consumer advocate service who negotiates with automotive retailers to get good prices whether you’re buying or leasing a car. It’s not clear whether ACS has set pricing with different car manufacturers, but that’s likely, given their list of partnerships.

CarsDirect is a car-buying service, sure, but the difference is in the name. Direct. You can buy cars directly from this website. They offer upfront pricing on all the many makes and models of cars they sell, and you can choose to use a dealer or not. It’s not necessary. They also have a helpful tool called the Research Center, where you can really examine the car or truck you’re interested in buying. Just sign up for the service and you’re good to go.

Capital One Auto Finance
There are people who love Capital One and there are people who hate them. If you’re in the former category, you might already know that Capital One has an Auto Finance department who will not only finance your new or used car, but they will also offer you a discounted price, so that you don’t have to haggle yourself. How does that work? Capital One has lots of fingers in lots of pies, so they are able to get discounted prices with a lot of different car manufacturers. They are proof positive that sometimes it’s good to be friends with the big boys.

With Autofinder, it is all about pre-negotiated discount dealer pricing. So, they don’t haggle for you, they already have good deals with all the major car manufacturers, and if that deal is good enough for you, then great! They also help you find financing, help you sell or trade in your old car, and even give you advice on how to do some negotiating yourself.

1Click Auto Brokers
1 Click Auto Brokers guarantees they can get you the lowest purchase price or lease payment on a new car. That’s pretty cool, if it’s the truth. They say they don’t receive a commission at all, so there is no telling how they make money, but they say they are committed to providing a hassle-free experience. It is pretty cool that if you are not totally satisfied you get your retainer back, so if you find out you DIDN’T get the best price, it is pretty much no harm/no foul.

If you’re military, you’re in luck. This company is dedicated to serving the US military, making the car buying process easy so that military folks can continue to serve our country. They have a network of dealers in every state that participate, so just go to the site, pick your state, and pick from the list of dealers in your town. Easy as that. The pre-negotiated prices make things a breeze, and you’ll be on the road in no time.
This site is Kiplinger’s favorite, because they don’t have pre-negotiated prices for cars. Pre-negotiated prices are great, if they’re low enough, but how do you know you’re REALLY getting the best deal? CarBargains makes dealers bid for your business. They look at about 5 dealerships in your area and really and truly haggle and negotiate to get you the best price.
