The internet offers a wealth of information for adults and children alike. Back in the days before the internet, we had to rely on encyclopedias and library books to help our kids (or if we were kids ourselves) find information for school projects and reports. Now, the internet has opened up a whole new way to learn. There are a number of great websites to help children learn about animals.
This website offers “Field Guides” to over 5,500 species, as well as fun games children can play that teach children about animals. All the information on the website has been reviewed by biologists and zoologists, so you can rely on the accuracy of the information. The website is owned by the Shearwater Marketing Group, a company that concentrates on nature.
>>eNature – enature.com
While this is a website that is related to an actual zoo, it actually contains a lot of useful information. The “education” section offers information about endangered species, helpful tips on who to choose report topics and a guide to finding more information, and whole sections about different animals.

Net Vet Electronic Zoo
While you have to do some digging, this site offers links to many different websites about particular types of animals. A lot of their links are broken, but you can still find some great resources. With the volume of information this site has attempted to catalog, a few broken links are expected. The website is affiliated with Washington University.

Kids Click! Animals
This is another portal, dedicated to steering kids to kid-friendly websites about animals. The main portal lists just about every type of animal you can think of, and when you click on one of the links it takes you to a subpage with a robust list of links about that particular type of animal.
>>Kids Click! – kidsclick.org/midanim
This interactive website allows you to click on the type of animal you want to learn about, click that you want to learn about it, and it will give you a summary, the animal’s eating habits, habitat, and more. They have a “Pet Me!” feature that is coming soon, supposedly to make the site more fun. As it is, the website is full of great information laid out in a way that is fun for kids to use. You can also order books off the site.
