We kind of had to start with Merriam Webster. They have a top-notch online dictionary and thesaurus. They offer a paid membership service that has great services too if you need even more than what you see online. A quick and easy way to look up that word you are trying to spell or look for alternative words to use.

This is one of our favorite wordy sites and a great way to test your word muscles. Do you have a flabby vocab section….or six pack abs so to speak? At Free Rice you are tested on your vocabulary and earn rice to feed the hungry for your good skills. The test gets harder the higher your score goes. And boy do we mean it gets harder! A great way to stretch yourself and that wordy vocabulary!

This is a terrific site for adults and kids who love words. Make your own crossword puzzles using their own free software. It’s quick and easy to use – I use it often (personalized crossword puzzles are a fun gift to give). Try giving your child crossword puzzles to increase their vocabulary or spelling skills. Or make crossword puzzles for loved ones for the holidays. With their free software you can print them out, put them on a website or save them to your computer.

One of our favorite things about Café Press is you can find t-shirts, bumper stickers, tote bags and more with all types of sayings and graphics on them. See something you like but wish it was personalized or in a different color? Ask the Shop Manager, as many will customize something (some may ask for a fee). Giving your wordy family member or friend a t-shirt or other gift item with a funny or thoughtful saying on it is a great gift idea.
